New Peachy Baby One Size, Made in Canada, Cloth Diapers!!

Peachy Baby Cloth Diapers are a fantastically soft, All in two diaper system. You will be able to fit these onto babies from 6lbs to 40lbs! These are designed to actually fit well onto newborn babies unlike most one size diapers where they just don't fit very well for the first month or so until your baby chunks up some more.

The waterproof cover is made from polyurethane laminate (safe and breathable) with a soft microfleece layer on top to prevent any red marks on baby's thighs and make for a great fit! The absorbent inserts are available in small and large to keep the bulk minimal while being extremely absorbent. The inserts are made from 70% rayon from organically grown bamboo mixed 30% organic cotton!

Another reason to love Peachy Baby? All their diapers, inserts and peaches & cream diaper balm is made in Canada!!

Beyond it's eco-features, the Indie is one of my very favorite all-terrain strollers, packed with useful features — like a full-coverage canopy (with SPF 45 protection), adjustable footrest, and a front wheel that can be fixed for rough terrain or can swivel for better maneuverability.

Nursing

When you're pregnant you worry about the birth of your baby, the pain, the health of your new arrival, the nursery decor, diapers, sleep or lack there of to come, but many new moms don't give breastfeeding much thought and most don't realize their journey to nurse could be just as challenging (although so worth it) as many other chapters of their life. Granted for some it comes easily but for many others it takes a great effort and determination to continue.

  • Cabbage leaves in your bra help soothe the pain of engorgement when your milk supply comes (usually 3-5 days after birth)
  • Warm compress and warm showers help soothe
  • Don't worry about seeing how much your baby is getting, just worry about the soiled diapers
  • Pumping in the first few days if baby is having trouble nursing can help encourage your milk supply to come in
  • A nipple shield can be a lifesaver if you're finding nursing painful or have flatter nipples "Yes! The nipple shield is the greatest invention ever and instantly worked! Saved so many tears for both mom and baby."
  • Squishing your breast into a hamburger shape will help baby latch on
  • Pick up a good nipple cream and nursing pads for your hospital bag

  • The first 6-8 weeks are usually the hardest- it does get easier!
  • Your nipples are not used to breastfeeding it may hurt even when you're doing everything right- despite what all the books say about it shouldn't hurt.

  • Mother's milk tea and other supplements may help increase your supply if needed
  • Get professional help from a lactation consult if you need it
  • Rest and spend as much time skin to skin with baby as possible
  • Drink water & then drink some more
  • Co-sleep. Makes the night feeding better. Research this subject to learn more about how to do it safely, learn about the benefits, etc. -S.K.
  • Create a nursing nook or corner. Have snacks and water handy and a comfy place to sit. -Tanis Nielson-Rhoads
  •   "You are not the first person to struggle and no one is judging you. Make YOUR choices based on YOUR situation, you are a wonderful mother regardless." -Victoria Mom

  •  "Before you try formula, trying pumping for a day or two (or more). That's what a lactation consultant suggested to me and it totally saved me, or I would not have been able to continue breastfeeding. It sounds strange, but giving your nipples just a little break, even a feeding or two but as much as several days, does wonders. Then, every time the pain starts coming back, you can always pump." -L.G.

Here's a link to 50 best breastfeeding resources out there. Thanks to Claudia for sharing this.

*I'm not a health care professional, so of course seek the help of a health care professional, these are just tips and suggestions from other mothers who have struggles with nursing too!

Best Bottom Cloth Diaper System- New!

Best Bottom cloth diapers are made from some of the best quality PUL I've seen. All Made in the USA too.

The cover is one size fitting from about 7lbs to 35 lbs. The bulk is mitigated with 3 different size inserts to take you from newborn to potty training.

I'd recommend 3 inserts for every 1 cover- so that's 2-3 diaper changes!

Now available to try in our cloth diaper newborn & 15+ lbs rental kits

For Best Bottom snap-in inserts, my personal preference is the organic cotton & hemp; however, if you prefer faster drying and aren't as concerned about having natural fibers next to baby's skin the stay dry inserts might be the best for you. You can always try a few and each and then stock up on your faves.

I especially love the gussets on the legs for newborns but really they're nice to have until solid food or even potty training!

Wondering where to buy Best Bottom Diapers? Best Bottom Cloth Diapers are now available at Abby Sprouts' Store in Victoria, BC, Canada or you can order online from our website.

The tricks to successfully buying locally handmade products!

Buying Locally Handmade Products is an awesome way to support local business and artisans but it comes with some unique challenges.

Most locally made items are produced by hand in small batches and maybe even one of a kind, so if you see something you love or you know your sister, aunt, hubby, etc would love- best to buy it when you see it! So many times people come back into the shop and we've sold out of the items they had in mind.

If what you're looking for isn't there always ask if there's more on the way. Sometimes the biggest obstacle for mama's making items is finding the time to sew, paint, knit etc but they might still have yards of the fabric you loved.

Supporting locally handmade items is definitely worth it!

Padraig Slippers... these are definitely one of our best new additions!

In December 2011, we added the gorgeous and functional Padraig handmade slippers to our storefront in Victoria, BC as well as our online store. I don't think I have ever had so many people come in with stories about one product.

It seems everyday there is a new person in here saying how they have a pair for themselves and love them, or they were the best when their children or grandchildren were young, or how their 9 year old lives in them.

What I really love is Padraig Slippers despite all their success have stayed true. They continue to be handmade in North Vancouver, BC using pure wool, sheepskin and leather- no synthetics or overseas production.

In addition to all these lovely stories, nearly our entire family received slippers for the holidays this year and they're all in love. These are quickly becoming one of my fave new mom gifts too.
